Little Birdie Design Studio Scarf - handmade Akron

vintage upcycled fringe boots - handmade Akron, Ohio

Fringe fashion - Glendale Steps Akron Ohio

I was actually not intentional with this fringe overload. It just happened. (no shame)
My favorite item from this look is the handmade hanky scarf from Little Birdie Design Studio. I've gotten to hang with Little Birdie numerous times at various art events since 2011. I love all of her designs! This scarf, I finally bought at this past NOTO fashion show and it's added some serious style to my summer wardrobe. Note, that it's red and I paired it with the pink ombre dress, only a crazy person would do that...so glad i'm that person.
Also, check it, I have a new pair Vintage up cycled boots available. They're a size 8.5 but fyi, I'm a 7 and I was able to wear them comfortably for this shoot. They're a lovely statement piece to add to your Summer to Fall style transition.

DIY: Up Cycled Pom Pom Leg Warmers

DIY pom pom leg warmers from up cycled sweater

It's been awhile since I've done some unique DIYs! I've had an old Banana Republic sweater (with holes) laying around that I was going to throw away...but I couldn't bring myself to go through with it. The sleeves were still in great condition and I wanted to do something fun with them. Of course, my go-to is always add pom poms...BOOM excellent idea ; ) I can use the sleeves as arm or leg warmers! Also the gray sweater is such a great neutral color and can be paired with almost anything.
This DIY is so easy. All I did was cut off the sleeves at the seems and then glue on little pom poms from the craft store. I used hot glue because I wanted it to dry quickly but you can also use fabric glue. Guys, be bold and adventurous! Socks and sandals are still trending this year, this is a great alternative to the socks.

Have any old sweaters that are just taking up drawer space? This cardigan was a little too plain for me, the style isn't anything special so I decided it was time for it to go...NO wait!...it was time for me to get creative and turn it into a trending look. Glam it up!
I've been waiting to do a patterned piece with sequins for a while. So glad I chose this. It's such an easy DIY with fabulous results!

You'll need:
Sequin Ribbon (as seen above)
Felt circles (you can buy them precut or cut your own circles)
Fabric Glue

Simply glue the sequin strand down while winding it around the felt circle. I starting from the center, made sure the sequins slightly overlapped so it covered the entire felt.
Once you have as many sequin dots as you'd like, you can start figuring placement on your sweater. I played a bit with this, trying to get the dots a good spacing from one another. Then either glue them down with the fabric glue or sew them on. I decided to glue mine.
I love the results! So glam!

DIY: Knotted Shag Scarf - t-shirt upcycle

Saturday, September 22, 2012

It's all about layers, knots and shag right now. I still haven't gotten my hands on a shag jacket yet...so in the mean time, i've been pondering an easy diy to rock this fun trend. This scarf idea came from Eco Shag. I almost bought one of their scarves...but I'd rather save money, experiment and learn for myself.

I just took an old t-shirt and cut it into strips. The strips got knotted to one another making a long strand that formed an "infinity loop". You can make as many of these loops as you want and at whatever length to form your scarf. Mine is able to be wrapped around 3 times.

I'm pretty excited about it, after all it is a free scarf...but I must say, the Eco Shag scarves are much cuter! I think next time I'll try cutting skinnier strips or using a tee with heavier jersey fabric.
What do you think?
