Hello bold little Zara jacket. This is my go-to jacket for this fall. I love the bright redish orange color and the statement making details...zippers, studs, more zippers...all on a light weight linen fabric. Even better, I nabbed this beauty on sale...WIN!

Coconut and chocolate sugar cookies
Coconut is one of my current faves. Here, I just used a basic sugar cookie recipe (similar to this) and rolled them in the coconut flakes. I Topped it off with chocolate buttercream. These were soooo good...next time I'll make sure to drizzle caramel on top.

DIY: Splatter Paint Boots

DIY metallic splatter paint boots

I heard my childhood calling with the current splatter paint trend...so I flung some paint around.
....Ok, there was a little more intention involved than just flinging paint...a design was in mind.

First off, as always, I picked my colors and pick them wisely. I wanted to keep it more of a high-end adultish feel than the classic splatter paint, so I chose neutral colors, grays and metallic gold. Also I didn't want to cover the whole boot in the mess, that would've been intense (bad intense)...so I tried to keep the paint mainly in the front toe area.

These boots already had amazing textural detail with the weaved top and the studded wrap with buckles...but with the splatter added, it just gives them that extra character I was looking for.

Hmmm...what else can I cleverly fling paint at?

Splatter paint is back! I'm totally inspired by these high end fashions...but not the high price! Of couse, I'll be bringing you my own splatter painted goody very soon. The way I latch on to these fun trends, I might go overboard and start splatter painting everything. I love a good experiment. Let the fun begin!

DIY: Dressing Room Updates

Dressing Room - painted hangers
DIY Dressing Room - clothes rack

DIY Dressing Room with full length mirror
Dressing Room / walk in closet - garment racks
Just like any other project I take on, it's always a work in progress. A few months ago I transformed an ugly green bedroom in my house (it was so ugly I never even went in the space!) into a dressing room. Yep, a whole room to spew around clothes, shoes and accessories. Now I have a nice giant full length mirror in there, shelves hung for shoes and started adding some pops of color with painted hangers. Pretty close to being complete! Love this space and it's been a blast to work on.

TRENDING: embellished collars

sequined, studded and spikes collars
I'm finally jumping on this trend. I'm not a fan of collared shirts but with a little extra fun from embellishment...sequins, studs and spikes...how can I say no?!
Here are a few great options: 1  /  2  /  3

INSPIRATION: pattern and color

Saturday, August 11, 2012

Warning: color and pattern overload. I was inspired by the top image...pattern formed by layered color. It made my head explode a little bit, in a good way of course. Naturally, I wanted more of this eye candy... so I hunted up some similar items. Below are links to the fun finds

YUMS & NOMS: Colored Layer Cake

Simple white layer cake
colored layer cake

I sort of have an obsession with making little cakes...and of course eating them. Being a graphic designer, pixel perfect perfection is engrained into our process...but I've fallen in love with the imperfect artistic nature of buttercream frosting.

This cute little 3 layer, 6 inch cake was for my mom's birthday. Had so much fun making it for her!
I left the exterior simple, covered in buttercream and then coated it in white chocolate curls. It was a simple vanilla cake...until you cut into it. Stunning 2 toned lavender cake layers were the surprise punch!
This was my first attempt with coloring the cake batter itself and I love the results!

DIY: PAINTED SPOONS

Color is my passion...and I LOVE my orange and yellow kitchen. The bold, bright and sunny colors always make it an inviting place (except when there are dirty dishes everywhere, ahhh!).

Sadly, when trying to find orange kitchen gear, it's always few and far between...so as a solution, I'm jazzing up my own. I took basic bamboo spoons and added bold color to the handles. This is a great simple way to add a punch of color to your kitchen. Just simply mask off the area you want to paint so you get a clean line. You can even do stripes or a geometric pattern if you'd like. I added metallic gold and silver to some of the ends to mix it up.
