DIY Pine decor

Things I love: being creative with what I have and not having to buy things I don't need. So of course, using fresh pine for the winter / holidays is THE BEST way to decorate. Not only is it simple, but it's free (wink wink)...just go outside and do a lil snippy snippy and you're well on your way.

I chose to make potted arrangements but you can also make bundles to hang. Using various greenery is also a plus. I was able to find several different types, including Boxwood, Pine, Arborvitae and Spruce. All the different textures and slight color variants create interest and makes your arrangement more unique.

Now about some added color...Pom poms! You already know I was going there. These babies have been my easy-peasy go-to for pops of color for yeeeeears. They never fail me. They're quick to make, inexpensive and won't shatter like ornaments. There are many ways to make these guys...I have the plastic craft store pom pom makers in many sizes and they serve me well.

You might be wondering what to put everything in. I like to reuse my summer flower pots. I have them in red and chartreuse which is perfect for Christmas decor as well. If you don't have any flowers pots available, you can grab a plain terra-cotta pot for a few bucks and spray paint it. A vase you have sitting around is a great option too. Hint: mini versions would make great holiday party/ Christmas dinner table toppers.

For assembly, I arranged the greenery in layers and packed it in full so nothing would fall out. The longer stems are in the back and shorter in the front. I kept each kind of greens together so they formed their own layer. Other elements you can add in are pinecones (you can glitter these, you can spray paint these - go nuts) or some of your tree decor. I used some sparkly snowflakes and sparkly accent stems.

Christmas is quickly approaching but this is so quick and easy you can still make it happen. It looks beautiful as indoor decor or outdoors on a porch. What a lovely holiday gift it would make as well!
Enjoy & Happy Holidays, everyone!

Cleveland Akron Fashion - ruffled hi lo bellbottoms

Nastygal statement body chain necklace
Cleveland / Akron street style fashion
Nasty gal / Jeffrey Campbell Booties
Zara woven tassel bag - ruffled hi low bellbottoms

Hey guys, it's been a minute...but finally a new outfit post! It's been busy with the business (check out all the Glam & Grace goods here) and moving back to my house in Akron.
As you can tell, I'm still all about that black and white game. Just know I'm always either covered in coffee stains on the white or lint on the black. There's no getting around it, it's who I am as a person.
These bellbottom pants from Zara are so unique with their hi-low hem. I mean, yeah...sometimes they're hard to walk in and I trip but that's just the price you pay for awesome pants. I'm looking forward to pairing them with chunky sweaters for fall. Also, can we talk about these Jeffrey Campbells? Silver details, straps & lucite heels...whoa. I'm bummed that it's getting colder now and I wont be able to wear them soon. More outfit details below and hopefully more looks coming soon.

Bonlook Eclipse Glasses

Trying to transition into spring over here! Let me tell you, it's been a crazy couple of months since launching the Glam & Grace makeup line. Never have I more desired (& maintained) a wardrobe full of simple pieces I can throw on. The idea of a minimal color palette & not a lot of "necessary" layering has made finding something to wear thoughtless and quick. I am so annoyed when I have to wear a certain tank under a certain top...so I rid myself of all those type of styles. Now, my look is already defined when I purchase the items in my wardrobe so it makes getting dressed every day easy. Of course, you know I like to have my statement accessories to mix it up.
Versatile, mix & match is necessary for the busy girl boss who's getting 'ish done

button front a-line studded skirt

So. Many. Things. This outfit is super jam packed with details, trends, texture...all of em. But it works. A balanced crazy. The simple Black & White color palette acts as a mediator or sorts. It's like "marled knit crop top AND a striped fluffy scarf? Surrrrre, go ahead". The silver studded details of the skirt unify the western vibe of the hat & jewelry. By the way I love the look of the skirt, cute and fits well... but can a girl get some stronger snaps? With my high level of wardrobe malfunctions, a snap up skirt with wimp snaps won't cut it. (if you can successfully wear this skirt, please, give me tips)

YUMS & NOMS: Mixed Berry Crumble Recipe

Raspberries Blueberries Strawberries Blackberries fruit recipe
Mixed Berry Crumble Recipe

fresh fruit bake - berry crumble recipe

Ooooh you're gonna want to try this ooey gooey fruity recipe! Here's another one I learned from the incredible cooking class at Gervasi Vineyard. (check their current list of classes) This class was no joke. I learned so many incredible recipes, including Salmon En Papillate which I shared previously. These are both must makes on the regular!

 Mixed Berry Crumble Recipe

Filling

  • 2 Pounds Fruit (blueberries strawberries blackberries)
  • 2 teaspoon Lemon Juice
  • 1/4 cup Flour
  • 1/4 cup Sugar

Crumble
  • 1/3 cup Sugar
  • 1 cup Flour
  • 1/4 cup Light Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/4 pound Butter/Margarine
Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Toss fruit with lemon, flour and sugar. Spoon into 2 deep dish ramekins. Fill to top.

To make the crumble: Combine flour, both sugars, salt and butter. Mix with hands until large crumbles are formed. Sprinkle over fruit until covered. Place ramekins on a parchment lined baling sheet.

Bake 1 hour, until crumble is golden brown and berry filling is bubbling over.

NastyGal Statement Necklace - Laka Collar Body Chain

Rusts, browns, mauves...all the muted tones. But of course, I wanna talk accessories...
It's all in the details. I believe that accessories make the outfit. They take you from plain Jane to polished. Ok, maybe not polished...they won't iron your wrinkled clothes or remove cat fur for you...but they add a level of uniqueness, style and completeness to your look.

The quality of the accessories are also something to consider and a big factor. It's the most important part of your look. You can be wearing a t-shirt or even a trash bag for that matter, paired with a great necklace and killer shoes? Boom! You're good to go & can pull anything off. And guys, I'm not saying to go off and buy expensive designer brands, that's definitely not the case. Go for quality designed items that will last.

PS: And i know you're asking, "hey what's up with the flowers growing out of your body?"
Well, I'm a little salty I haven't gotten to wear a floral crown this week so I'm trying to do my best to get by....which means adding floral illustrations to anything that I can. Hopefully another fresh flower DIY will be in the works ; )

Etsy Finds:

Here we go! I found a few notable goodies on Etsy. These shops were stand outs for their overall aesthetic, desirable items, cohesive line and general breath of fresh air. I picked a variety of styles to accommodate various tastes. Check out their shops and support these bad ass makers.

Etsy Real Talk:

Oh Etsy, the frustration. It might make you cringe even thinking about shopping on the site. While it once was a powerhouse for indie designers, it's now filled with anything from mass produced crap from China to your every single friend who puts a bead on a string. Heck, I think my cat is even on there selling his fur balls.
Let me tell you it was a frustrating experience rummaging the site for designers, but once I found them, the struggle was all worth it. I've been hunting for original designs and creatives who kick ass at what they do. I know they're out there and I want to support them and be inspired by their awesome. (Keep in mind, this is only what I could find.)

Etsy Search Tips:

Know the buzz words for what you're looking for.

To find anything worthwhile on Etsy, you need to be specific. I used trending grouped keywords in my search, (more the better), tassel statement jewelry, geometric statement pendant, quartz crystal pendant, crushed pyrite pendant, rope fringe necklace, copper rope necklace. Being too general will land you in the desert with no water in sight.

Favorite all the shops and items you're interested in

This is somewhat of a handy little tool. Base on items and shops you favorite, Etsy will suggest similar shops/items for you to check out. Its another helpful way to shift through the frustrating mess.

Unfortunately, those are all the tips I have. The site has become so saturated that it's a struggle to find what you want. Good luck and I'd love to hear about your favorite makers and designs!
